Gerardo Sanabria (Chito) Went Home To Be With The Lord June 9, 2024

On Sunday, June 9 at 11:05 am, God answered your prayers for Gerardo to be delivered from his suffering from cancer by taking Gerardo to his eternal home. He was able to spend his last few weeks at home surrounded by friends and family.

Gerardo and his wife Yadira, Marvin’s sister, dedicated their lives to working with youth and children, especially those who grew up with abuse or struggled with addiction. For much of his life, Gerardo was a factory worker by day, and a church counselor by night.

Hospitality was another gift Gerardo and Yadira had, hosting many foreign exchange students for years. Julianna had the privilege of living with Gerardo and Yadira and their two sons, Marcos and Oscar, for a year in 1997 before she and Marvin got married also.

In 2006, Gerardo was laid off from factory work at the same time that we bought the farm in Katira, so we asked him and Yadira and their youngest son Oscar if they would be willing to move four hours away to run both the ministry and agriculture for us, and they took up the challenge.

For the next 15 years, Gerardo raised pineapple, chocolate, and cattle all while building up the infrastructure on our farm and working with the local churches and in the community serving children and youth especially and making many connections for us to bring mission teams down to serve in the community churches and schools. Gerardo and Yadira continued working at the farm all through his 2020 cancer diagnosis and treatment until July of 2021, when they decided to move back to San Jose to be closer to family.

If you want to hear more about his life, you can follow this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGpp5Px8q6M and go to minute 30:40 when Julianna shared about his life at Emmaus Church in Northfield.  You can also hear Marvin talk about the Pura Vida Bridges starting at 28:30 and Eowyn talk about our youth trip at 38:40.

Marvin will go down to Costa Rica a week earlier now flying out on Monday, June 17 to spend a week in San Jose with his sister Yadira and the family. Julianna and Eowyn will fly down at originally planned with Jonah Koch on Monday, June 24 to prepare for Gary Gilbertson’s pastors’ conference on June 29 & 30 and the Trinity Youth Group Trip, July 1 to July 7.

Here is Gerardo with his wife Yadira to the left of him in both photos.

Thank you for your prayers & support!
